I hate to send someone to another website, but if you can find one on those other trucks, ask them how many splines the wheel has. Maybe someone on here knows or has one around and can count them for you, but you might have better luck there.

As far as the horn button goes, if it doesn't fit (and that's likely the case) then you can either cut- carefully- the two horn buttons and mate them together with some epoxy or resin cast a new hybrid one of your own making with one of those silicone kits you can get at the hobby store. You could also make a nice horn button cover and hide that ugly logo from the other truck behind a pretty IH logo.

Hopefully someone on here with better knowledge than me can pipe in on how many splines the L steering wheel has.

You need a wheel with 36 splines. I know because I had to cut my wheel off my steering column. I bought this wheel on eBay. It fits, looks like the old one and is new (so it shouldn't crack). But the horn button needs sanded down 1/16. It's his last one.

This may not be of help, but I know for a fact a Scout II steering wheel fits the shaft on a GMC tilt column out of a 98 van. MM

What are splines and what do they do?

these are the "groves" that keep the steering wheel from turning around and around on the shaft.

Do you think the wheel I want can be made to work?

The end of the steering shaft has a certain number of grooves on it- in your case 36- and the hole in the middle of the steering wheel has to match in number. Something I forgot in my first post is that the diameter of the shaft needs to be the same, too, so when you're checking on the spline count of the Ch@vy wheel, ask for the diameter.

You might be able to fabricate or buy a wheel adapter. Anybody have any experience with this? Are there any available for IH or is this a universal kind of thing?
