L110 starter

Will a starter from a L160 fit/work with a L110 SD 220?

If the Motor in the L160 is an SD220, yes it will. If the motor is a Larger Motor, I can not say. Pull it off and compare, look at starter number tag, look at nose cone, If they are same then it should work. What is wrong with the one on the L110 SD220?
If you need one, I am sure someone has one.

Re: L110 starter

The l110 is not working. The part that engages the drive gear is blown out. I put an add in the classifieds and on a different site. I have had a few replies but only one in CA. This is the L160 and its not with the truck or motor. I'm just worried shipping will proove too much from Texas and Michigan. Found a new one in Canada and they wanted crazy money. Still looking isaac_404@hotmail.com

Is there a starter/generator rebuild shop near you? I had mine rebuilt last summer. The local shop had the parts in stock including brushes and springs, bushings, a bendix, solenoid (I changed it to 12v), and the nose piece of the housing which was broken. They even had an armature if I would have needed it. Changed all that stuff for around $100 including labor.

Re: L110 starter

Took the old starter to an old guy that specializes in generators. He quoted me 120 on parts and the same for labor. That was bearings brushes and the gear mechanism and cleaning. I felt 243 was way too much, especially since I don't know if my L110 even runs!

Re: L110 starter

The MT-63 only lists one starter,no specific engine or truck model. The same starter was used in early R series 100-160 (MT-97) for all engines, with later models the starter is listed for specific engines.SO the one you have should work.Count the teeth on the drive, there should be 9 as I found the same starter could have different drives.

I took the PN's for the pinion (bendix drive/1878079) and the complete starter, which had both a Delco-Remy & IH number.I then proceeded doing web searches. The drive didn't get many hits though,so I tried the complete unit numbers to see what I got. Surprisingly the IH pn got some of the better results.

69692R91 Starter <IH>
https://www.google.com/#q=69692R91+starter&start=0

1107074 Starter <D-R>
https://www.google.com/#q=1107074+start ... 0&tbs=li:1\

1108021 Starter <D-R ,replaces above>
https://www.google.com/#q=1108021+starter

There are complete starters and parts in the search results so you have to read. I found PN's for the brushes, bushings, solenoid and other parts to do a rebuild, even the drive! Just by using the starter number(s). 8-) I'm sure items like the brushes & bushings etc. can be found using the PN's from the IH book,I have for a KB starter. That would be a good way to double check any found using the starter # the way parts on the web are listed and definitely advisable with Napa.

Here's a link for Group 8 in the MT-97 (R-series) parts manual since the illustration is better for a breakdown of the starter. See FIG.08-11

Re: L110 starter

an L-160 Should, I say Should have a SD-240 in it. if motor hasn't been replaced,

a SD-240 is basically exactly the same as your SD-220. except for stroke/bore, all exterior components are same,

a SD-240 head also has bigger ports, but will bolt up and work on a 220.

but we are talking International so who knows what is in that L-160. you can check engine ID # located on front side of block above generator.

Re: L110 starter

I may have one that I picked up. I'll take a look around.

Yes, $120 is what I paid to get mine fixed a few years ago. I thought that was a little ridicules to have one rebuilt. It's not like I needed a complete replacement. Just rebuilt!

Where are you located? I'm in northern Ohio, so maybe I'm close to you.
