That said, I'm not the original owner, so who knows? I'm not old enough to have seen one on the showroom floor, neither. I do like to keep things original though, so I'm curious to know. On a warm day, I may take a close look at the original, which I kept out back under a tarp.

I would love to lay my hands on an SD 220 or 240 that runs just to get my truck up and running without chasing pipe dreams on where internal parts are supposed to be. I'm still looking for a decent cam, pistons, rings, bearings, and the complete gasket set for mine.

You may want to look at the 'swap meet" section. looks like a 220 is there for sale. They occasionally show up there.

I kept the original in hopes I could free it up. MMO leaks through all but 1 cylinder in a 24 hr period. At some point I'll bring it to work, have it drilled out, and bored over. Then the task of finding suitable pistons and rods will ensue. Not anytime soon though, unfortunately.

I'll take a close look at it this Spring, to see what color it really may have been. I'm guessing the thresher engine replacement was painted red to match the tractor? Either way, I'll be painting the original engine silver if it's rebuildable.

Here's a pic of my original '54 R100's SD220. You can make out the orange.

The second motor I got has it painted black.

Yep, That looks right . Nice Job !!! We've got the same thing going on here! Although my Son is going to convert to 12 volt and use an alternator. for his Muzak system  I'd rather listen to the engine and the gears whine myself but then I'm not 20 ;) Thanks for the post. If you have any more pics please send them my way. We're putting on self adjust rear brakes and am going to install front discs and dual master cyl. Thanks, Sandusky

I tore this one down to the frame, so have pictures of most anything you would want to see. Just let me know if there is something in particular.
