Your not that far away from me, if you find you need another Drive line to work with, I have at least one drive line from an L series. Should be the same as the original that came with your truck. PM me to work out the details.

Re: tranny swap question

unless you put in an overdrive transmission, you will not really gain, most trans go 1 to 1 out the back in high gear,

sounds like your rear end is high enough ratio to do freeway speeds,

your vibrations and shake have to be from that driveline,

an unbalanced driveline is no good, shake everything apart,

no driveline shop would of installed a driveline that short,

PO probably welded it up himself and didn't balance it,

Re: tranny swap question

As mentioned several times the splines on the slip yoke must be coupled more than a quarter inch or it will come apart when the springs recoil after you hit a bump. I always look to see they are at least 50% and not less than 3/4" of slip exposed. What hasn't been mentioned and with the good chance the slip joint has been apart, the u-joints need to be clocked the same when it is put back together or you will get a bad vibration. It is always good to lay a strait edge on the driveline to see if it has any obvious bend, if it ever broke a ujoint its a good chance it was bent before it came to a stop. MM

Example of gear ratio
I have a S-120-4X4, I upgraded to 3,55 gears, with a 32 inch tire. The truck runs 70 MPH at 2600 RPM"s. No overdrive
So I am wondering if your OD is working.
