tranny swap question

Hi!
I have 1954 R100 with BD260, 3speed manual tranny with OD. I wonder if I can swap to 5 speed a bit modern tranny from ford or any other cars or truck without custom bracket.

As far as I know you will have to make an adapter plate. MM

Have you had it on the road yet? If so, what speeds and gears? some have used original engine and little larger tires to get "highway" speeds. Main difference (that I know of) is the ratio on the rear end.
Just my thoughts, someone smarter than me will speak up.

Re: tranny swap question

Lloyd you are correct in your assumption although the engine may not have enough ponies to sustain speed considering the weight of the truck, aerodynamics, and the engines state of tune / overall condition. Does the engine require a rebuild? How is the compression? ETC.

Re: tranny swap question

I'm sorry guys!
Engine is solid with full tune up and I'm planing put petroniks and propane(may be).
rear end is 3.476, tranny is good too but gearing is way too different. So when I drive it shakes to much when I start moving every time, gearing way off. So I had drive line fall out because of gearing different's at spline joint.
So I thinking may be try to put car tranny, to make it bate driver. I wot to build rat rood out of it.

Thank you
guys

Re: tranny swap question

I may not be reading this right, but did you replace the drive line? Or did you put an adapter from original drive line to the rear end? Drive line bent?

Just some questions.

Re: tranny swap question

PO guy did all work, I but truck modified, and I think drive line a bit short. Drive line in spline joint only 1/4". So in the end it need to be modify.

That is dangerous, it can drop out if you hit a good bump. Is there a carrier bearing between the trans and rear end? that would help.

Re: tranny swap question

Get that truck to a drive line specialist fast! I think you have a bomb just waiting to let go. :o First of all if the driveshaft is only holding on by 1/4 inch that in itself will cause problems of vibration, along with parts dropping out on you.
