Re: New Toy 54 R100-update

I found mounting a modern radio to the original round dashboard a minor challenge. For a time, I had a Ford radio installed, because the controls matched the IH. Later, I installed a modern radio with an adapter I had milled out.
Good luck. It is not all that difficult.

Nikki, thank you much for your input.

The truck came with a bracket spot welded to the bottom of the dash.

I have purchased an little FM radio and I'll have to do a little massaging the bracket to get it to fit good.

I'll also need to find an antenna, that mounts on the cab, passenger side, between the front windshield and door.

Re: New Toy 54 R100-update

For my R120, I mounted the antenna on the "A" pillar between the windscreen and the rain gutter. The antenna was all but out of sight, in that space.
The mirrors are Jeep Wrangler. If I remember correctly, the mirrors were swapped from left to right. I made threaded plates that fit inside the doors. The bolt plates shown are for 1940 Ford hinges. The IHC bolt plates are square and have 4 threaded holes.

If you intend to use mirrors similar to the originals, try applying a convex mirror to the right side. This will mostly eliminate the image appearing to shake.

Thank you Nikki, we have some similar items going on. I too have Jeep mirrors on mine, except they're mounted on the door hinge. I like the way yours are mounted on the door. To bad I didn't see yours before I mounted mine. I will look into the convex on the passenger side.

I too have the original antenna mounted on the A pillar, except it's on the passenger side. It looks like the old VW beetle antenna.

Nikki, here is a shot of my antenna base and where its mounted. The base is fine, but it's missing the last section to the antenna.

I like what you have done. I gave my R120 to a friend, He hauled it into the interior of the province and abandoned it in a field. I have major regrets.

Nikki, I agree with Harvey, and I feel there's more with the same sentiment. Also, since you said it was to a friend, I'd surely have to ask them why they misused and abused the R120 the way they did. It would be a great start to ease my mind some.

Re: New Toy 54 R100-update

I'm still in need of an antenna. The original screw broke off in the A pillar, but I'll get it out.

I think I can make a VW antenna work.
