1954 R0160 COE SD220 engine removal

Does anyone have experience and tips on removing a SD220 engine from an R-160 COE? I would appreciate any help I can get on this forum.
Thanks.

Is there a particular aspect of this effort that has you stumped ? Do you have all the basic hand tools that you'll need, and a good roll-around hoist ? What about a helper you can call on for those times you can't reach both ends of a bolt at once ?
Other than that, and maybe an acetylene torch for the truly stubborn hardware pieces, it's pretty much just the determination to dive in ! You CAN DO IT !!!

Rusty Driver,

I haven't removed an engine from a COE before. It looks like I will have to remove pieces from the front of the cab and slide the engine out the front. I just wondered what pieces I will have to remove.

When I pulled mine, I took it out the front. I removed the bumper, grill, and radiator. I left the fenders on the truck. If I recall, the big problem was getting the oil pan over the front axle and the cherry picker hitting the firewall. I decided that when I put the engine back in the truck, I would use ramps to elevate the front end to allow more room for the cherry picker. Click on picture to enlarge.

I put this truck on the back burner to work on a couple of others. I bought a good 282 to put in it but I don't think it will work so I'm looking for another one. Here's a few more plus a picture of the two I was working on. Click on picture to enlarge.

I am thinking that one of these IHC/ Orrville crewcabs might look good as a COE.

That Crew Cab would make a great COE. I've got the sheet metal off another truck to do it.
