R-100 rear brake hub

This right rear hub has a slot for a key, but no key. However it still does not want to come off. Is there a special tool that I need to remove it, such as some kind of a puller?
Also the right front and left rear drum hub lugs are left handed. Is this normal for the R100?

Is there some place online or brick and mortar that has service manuals for the R100 or early R series? (R100-R160)
I have the MT-97 parts catalog and CTS-11 with CTS 12 supplements, but they don't show locations or how to do what I need.

Thanks,

JEM

As far as the hub removal you need a heavy duty hub puller. Also make sure the drum spins and is not grabbing on the brake shoes. I have used the puller i have on my KB trucks. Many times they are very stuck due to the taper shaft. I would bet the key is in there but just pushed back. If not someone had it off and never fixed it?

This is the style puller you need. Many times getting an old used one is better.

The axle is tapered, so the hub tightens on the axle as the nut is tightened. But my guess is that there is a key, just not sticking out far enough that you see it. It's a long keyway on the axle. In any event, you need a hub puller. Don't try to use a gear puller that reaches around the drum or you'll ruin the drum. Put the nut back on the axle, loosely. Attach the hub puller to the lugs and tighten it up. You'll need to smack the hub puller with a big hammer to tighten it up. Some heat on the hub will probably help. Don't expect that it will just come off easily. Let it sit for a while and then hammer and heat some more. When it finally pops, which may be overnight, it will do it with a bang, and you'll know why the nut is on the axle.

Left hand threads go on the left side of the truck. You just have one hub on the wrong side of the vehicle.

Thank you for your replies. I have ordered the puller and supposed to have it by this coming Monday.
I do have a question or two. First, if the key is stuck back up in the hub, will it come off with the hub or does it have to be removed some how first?
Would it be advisable to spray the hub spindle with some kind pf penetrating fluid while I'm waiting on the puller?

Once again,
Thanks

Thanks for your input. Yes I have the books on your link. I have the MT-97 parts catalog and CTS-11 with CTS 12 supplements, but they don't show locations or how to do what I need. The CTS-11 is on the L-Line. I also have the CTS-12.

Thanks,

JEM

To answer your question on the key. It does not have to removed before removing the hub. The key will either stay in the groove on the axle shaft or come off with the drum and be in the slot on the hub. Either way is no big deal. Probably the least of your worries at this point. Good luck.
