Re: BD240 pushrod/rocker adjuster interchange

Update: The Farmall 706 pushrods are longer, no dice! I guess I'm not that surprised since the C263 is much later tilt valve cylinder head design. Here's a photo showing the BD240 pushrod next to the C263 pushrod. The C263 Farmall 706 pushrod/adjuster is above and the BD240 is below for comparison :

Here's the donor C263:

Closeup of worn BD240 adjuster. The cup end of my original pushrod has definitely worn into the bad rocker adjuster. No way I would swap a good adjuster onto a bad pushrod, so now I'm looking for a straight valve BD240 pushrod:

I also reset all the valves to lash at 0.019" warm. There's considerable less clatter at idle although mechanical valvetrain always has some noise. I have a video of starting and idling with no rocker cover, but it needs to be edited a bit. Maybe I'll post a Youtube link if I get it uploaded.

Starts rite up, like on the vid. Did you get the length on the straight valve push rod?

It might be worth calling your local Case/IH dealer. They used the SD220 in some combines and cotton pickers, and I'd guess the earlier tractors, around the 560 series, were straight valve. The part number should be 69 733 R1, I think.

Re: BD240 pushrod/rocker adjuster interchange

After digging around a little on the CaseIH website, it looks like the BD220 engine was used in the 303 combine. The BD 220 and BD 240 straight-valve engine would use the same pushrods. I have never seen a tilt-valve head used in an ag application. It looks like the current pushrod part number is 164436R91. This pushrod was used in many gas ag engines and even a few diesels. I would still verify by laying them side by side.

Dean, the 164436 pushrod is for a tilt valve engine, up through the BG's.
