SD 240 Carter Carburator

Hello Everyone, it has been a long time since I have been on the site. Life happened and the truck project got back burnered. I recently moved from Indiana to Wisconsin. In the move I lost the carb for my truck (R162). Does anyone know where I could find a Carter YS 736S carburator for a SD 240 engine or someting that will work in its place?

I have one I'd part with. I'm sure it would need a rebuild. Send me a private message if interested.

Re: SD 240 Carter Carburator

Looks like the "fat finger typing disease" of which I am afflicted also effects others ;)

The 736s is a Carter YF, not a YS. The S in YS meant sealed, and these units were used only on Jeeps with the fording package.

The 738s was used on a Willys 134 CID 4 cylinder, not an I.H.C.

I.H.C. used a number of glass bowl Holleys and a Zenith or two on the 240 in the same time period; probably the best of those would have been the Zenith 10795.

Some folks that do shows really like the glass bowl Holleys, as when the hood is open and the engine runnings, observers can watch the gasoline flow into the bowl. Just remember that all Holleys are hopeless romantics; they never meet a gas station without falling in love.............again. ;)

You are correct. What I have is a 736s YF.

the one I have is stamped YF and has a tag that says 738S on one side and International Truck 1950-52 SD-240 on other side

Re: SD 240 Carter Carburator

BRJ - most of the YF's have the number stamped on the center section of the carb. Possibly the individual who made out the tag erred?

If it truly is a 738s, there are some Willys folks that want it!
