IHC head ID question

Hey all, I have been concentrating on cleaning my IHC storage unit and found this head(69717-R1), not sure what it's off of, but am thinking it will not work on my BD 264 that's in my L112. Can anyone tell me where I can look this up, I have manuals but neither head part number is shown.....

Thank you,
T

Re: IHC head ID question

AARG! Casting numbers are almost useless to ID things. I don't know why I have to keep saying it! A bigger picture of the part would go much further in ID'ing it.
If you say it is not a Small 6 than. More than likely a BLD or BD medium six head, but no way to tell from that small pic.
If I had to guess, 282-308 head.

Useing Google, some are saying it is SD head, other are not so sure. Take it at your own risk. A bigger picture of the head would ID much easier.

Re: IHC head ID question

The info I'm finding says it's a straight-valve SD/early BD head.
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.

Re: IHC head ID question

Measure intake ports on it VS. the ones on the 264 manifolds,
220 has smaller intake ports, a 240 264 have bigger intake ports, only real difference between them,
a 264 intake locator ring won't fit the 220 head, and a 220 locator ring would be loose in a 240/264 head
you CAN put a 220 head on a 264, just won't breath as well, probably negligible performance wise, putting a 240/264 head on a 220 head will have a step down in diameter and probably mess with vaporized gas flow,
Gentle Men! you can't fight in here! This is the war room!

Re: IHC head ID question

I don't know how it is on the small 6, but on the medium 6 the larger port also has larger valves, which will not clear the bore on the smaller engines. So you can put a small valve/port head on a larger bore engine but not the other way around.
On the medium 6 the cut off is between the 269 and smaller (lined engines) and the 282 and 308 (non-lined).
Casting numbers are a real poor way to know what you have.

Re: IHC head ID question

After talking to my son who helped me strip the parts off of the 'S' model IHC frame. I also got the 3 speed transmission and front axle from a truck that someone stripped all of the Sheetmetal for a swap. I did have one other picture in my phone.

Thanks for the help,
T
