Mirror recommendations

I bought the universal mount 4" swan neck mirrors from Speedway Motors and they are the LOOK I want BUT when I had a friend hold them up to try to find a good placement the driver side was fine but there is no physical way to adjust the passenger side in far enough. Maxed out (or in depending how you picture it) I'd be looking at the ditch. I can't even get close to seeing any of the truck or directly behind me. I planned to mount them on the doors near where the vent window channel is and will reinforce them as needed. I'm not married to this placement but after spending hours fixing the damage the original mirrors did to the cowl I definitely don't want that style again. What has everyone used? Any suggestions to make mine work or know of something that does? I'm open to any ideas. I'm about 3/4 the way to having this beautiful old girl on the road and maybe even a few local shows but due to timing and weather here in Wisconsin she's being stored in my garage instead of the shop now till spring so I have easy access to her and time to try out some options but have to wait to install yet. I would like to figure out all these odds and ends over the winter months so when I can finally finish her everything I need is ready to go. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS are appreciated! Thanks again!

Re: Mirror recommendations

Doesn't sound like the look you want for your truck, but west coast style mirrors would be an option.

Re: Mirror recommendations

I adapted Jeep Wrangler mirrors to my R120. The worked really well.
I fitted threaded backing plates inside the doors to better hold the mirrors. 17

I like the no mirror look , peak inside at the large rear view ...

I went for years with only a small rear view one in the cab.

Also I have used the regular goosenecks they certainty did the job
when the truck was in commercial use .

But the two I ended up with are the cats behind in my view.

The cab rear view is from a Dodge ice van. Extra wide with
a great view on the passenger side and to the rear.
I have it fixed in place so no worries of having to adjust as its
always spot on.

The drivers door is a clip on , with allen setscrew,
Clean look and with good vision,

Not only do they work for me but its safe for me as I am able
to clearly see and know obstacles around me. That is what
is most important with mirrors .. duh!

Set up to your suit.
Also it can and does make a difference
if you trailering , towing or driving in heavy traffic areas
so what is prefect for me may not suit you..
Safety always prevails over looks !

Safe holidays !

Re: Mirror recommendations

I’ll go with Harvey on this one. Safety first, but looks does have a bearing in my case. I went with round “peep” mirrors both sides. They have integral LED arrows that flash with my signal indicators and I’m really happy with that function. They came from the Speedway catalog. The right side placement turned out like you’re experiencing. The left side does nicely, but I’m still happy with the symmetry of having both sides the same appearance. My in-cab mirror is also from Speedway and is much wider than the stock mirror for greater coverage like Harvey spoke of. It, too, is of modern function with integral digital compass and outside temperature read outs. I’ve tried many different ways to get that right side mirror to be “reflective” of what’s behind to no avail. I’d replace it, but, when they were installed there was a small hole that was drilled in the door so the wire for the LEDs was less visible. So until I’m ready to patch the holes/repaint and get different outside mirrors, I’ll have to put up with no rear view on that right side just like if it was stock.

I liked the stock style, the passenger one I used a convex, it worked for me. I kinda like the hotrod ones the above posts are using to.

Re: Mirror recommendations

I had those long stem mirrors on my "R". the right side was longer and the shaking make it all but useless. I stuck a convex mirror on the flat glass and, just like MAGIHC, the shaking seemed to go away. I think the curve of the reflector made that difference.
I have three sets of YANKEE IHC mirrors. I hope they will work on our "L"
