Re: Headlight inquiry

I keep a coupla these on hand, Fit sealed beam and H-4 bulbs, and can be changed or repaired on the road without tools, they have a spring lock connection to the wires.

PS I don't buy them from Germany, they are available in the US form US resellers. Anywhere that sells Hella products should be able to get them.

If your truck doesn’t already have the headlight sockets wired in, you should be able to get new ones (with a wiring pigtail) at your local auto parts retailer. If the pigtail isn’t long enough to get you connected, then pick up some wire there as well. Match the wire gauge to the pigtail or the next size larger.

That’s what I was guessing but hadn’t had time to check with them...person who sold me the lights had no idea or was too busy to check into it. Thx!

Re: Headlight inquiry

Turns out I’ll need headlight retainer rings, I think. The drivers side has a headlight bucket where I can see a retainer ring could be attached...the passenger side headlight doesn’t have the slotted ring that a retainer ring should attach to...weird. Have any ideas or headlight buckets plus retainer rings for sale that fit a ‘51 L110?

Re: Headlight inquiry

It is very unlikely that Old IHC made their own light buckets and retainer rings. try this link. https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&sxsr ... 45&bih=881
It was posted, on this forum, many years ago, IH used the same headlight bucket system as a popular school bus builder. possibly Blue Bird.
The retaining rings for my 1940 Ford are the same as the early 1950s IHC. I have a drawer half full of IH buckets and retainer rings. NO, I am not going to ship these to you. If you were close to Vancouver, BC, I would give you a set. Get out there and do your research. I had to do this on my own 50 years ago when I got into this IH truck thing; Check your local IHC truck wrecking yards for the parts you need. There is lots of cross-over in IHC parts.

You could also try Outback IH parts. https://www.outbackihc.com/
Many of the IH Scouts used the same headlight assemblies. You pick one, Make Google Search your best friend.

Re: Headlight inquiry

I don't have my MT-63 parts book handy, but the stock headlights in the L-R-S-series trucks were for the most part supplied by the Guide Division of General Motors. So this would be the headlight bucket used: https://www.brotherstrucks.com/1947-57-CHEVY_GMC-COMPLETE-HEADLIGHT-BUCKET/productinfo/CHLB757/

This is the corresponding bezel: https://www.brotherstrucks.com/1947-54-CHEVY_GMC-TRUCK-HEADLIGHT-BEZELS-W_-SEALS-CLIPS/productinfo/HLB4754/

Note that the headlight bezel has a square clip at the top that hooks, and the screw retains it at the bottom.
