R112 rear axle seal and drums?

I have the front and rear brakes torn down on my R122. Looks like a complete rebuild on brakes is needed. It looks like I can buy all of the parts. I am curious on what there are for seals.on the rear axle? Looks like an outer type seal.but is there also an inner seal? Also if i am not able to get the drums turned due to the deep ridges it looks like I will need to cut the swedges to seperate the drum from the hubs. Do I just need to bite the bullet and buy a $90 cutter to.do this right?
Thanks

Cutting the swedge is a good Idea if you need to separate the hub and drum. Are these 6 lug drums? Also, do you need wheels? On drums, I know this is not acceptable by some, but if you take the outside ridge off the drum and just polish them drum, not try to take the "gouges" out, the shoes will "wear" in. Just my thoughts.

They are 5 lug 12x2 drums. I have another 1956 S100 chassis with good drums that I was hoping would work but they are 11" drums even though I have seen documentation that they came with 1 2" also.

I was.wondering that about the grooves and as much as it will be driven it probably would not matter. I will have a machine shop look at them on Tuesday and make a decision then.

Do you know if the rear axle has an inner seal? I did not see.one but did not take the backing plate off yet.

From looking at the MT-97, it looks like there are two seals - the outer seal, #1112Y, and the inner seal, #89986R91. Looks like the 89986 may cross to a Timken 450143 or National 50143. The 1112Y is a felt seal that supposedly has a Timken number of 5M289, but do your own checking to see.

Drums are Raybestos number 2316R.

Paul, I took the backing plate off to the point of just the axle bearing exposed and I see no inner seal. Do you have a picture of where the inner seal is supposed to be?

Thanks

Inner seal is inboard of the bearing, which is greased, not run in oil. You will not see it until the shaft and bearing are out.

#2 is the inner seal, and #10 is the outer seal.

So is it possible to replace the inner seal without pulling the axle? Not looking like it. The one side on mine seems to be seeping gear oil. Also how does the bearing get oil to it? Or is supposed to be greased?
