If you have the tail-pipe section made up and installed, do not have it exit behind the tailgate. This is a low pressure area when the truck is underway and the exhaust will gather and follow the truck. When the truck stops, the exhaust smell will waft over the truck.
Exit oput ahead or behind the rear wheel is a better idea.

I asked that the tailpipe be on the left side, so I could hear it. When I took the truck back for a new muffler after 20 years, the same shop changed the system to dual exhaust. Suddenly the truck sounded like crap.

There is a local farmer still running a C60 Chevy with 366, dual's under the bed with spouts. Can hear him a long way off, when he pulls off the gravel to the pavement.
