SD220 Front Motor Mounts

I ordered the motor mounts from Restoration Specialists. He said their comments say I needed 4 for the front but he wasn't sure why. Maybe 2 for the motor and 2 for the radiator? Well they came and are 4 times the height of the one I pulled out. See the pic below. What do your front motor mounts look like? The new one looks huge.

Re: SD220 Front Motor Mounts

To clarify, are you talking about the isolators between the wishbone and frame, or the mount between the top of the wishbone and the engine? Your old isolator looks like what my S120 had between the wishbone and frame.

I don't think those thick pads are going to work for you. They must be for something besides an L or R. I cut out some pieces of old conveyor belting ( 1/4 to 3/8 thick) for my front engine, radiator frame and front clip mounting. Seemed to work, it's all together and runable. My original pads looked just like yours. Could the new ones be sliced in half or thirds?

Re: SD220 Front Motor Mounts

I didn't pull the wishbone off so I would be referring to the ones against the frame. Maybe that's why he said 4 though. Top and bottom of the wishbone.

I don't think these are usable either. I also have an old conveyor belt so I will look into cutting some small pieces out of it for this purpose. Rather than cutting the mounts up I will send them back.

Re: SD220 Front Motor Mounts

The first thing I would ask is do you have a parts manual? Do you want one? Second thing I would ask is, do you have a service manual? Do you want one? You can down load both free of charge and answer many of your questions. The motor mounts from Restoration specialties are the correct ones and you need four. What you took off and show in your picture is conveyer belt. Someone has replaced the correct mounts with conveyer belt previously. Two of the mounts or isolators go between the wishbone and the cross member. The other two go below the cross member. The mounting bolts pass up through the mounts, through the cross member, through the second set of mounts, and through the wishbone. You can still use conveyer belt if you wish and if I sound like a smart ass, I apologize, I'm not trying to be one. I'm just trying to help.

To download the service manual, google CTS-11/12 and it will come up under Hansen web design. To get the parts manual, google MT-97. It will also come up under Hansen web design. You can download and have for reference.

Yes I have both manuals. I can never find anything when searching by those part numbers. Maybe I'm not using them correctly.

Re: SD220 Front Motor Mounts

After posting a response, I've been going back and forth between the parts book and the service manual. The parts manual shows only two mounts required for the cross member. The service manual doesn't make reference to the number of mounts required for the 220 and 240 engines but pictures 3-4 mounts for the larger engines. I'm a little confused now but I suspect the reason for 4 recommended mounts is to go below and above the cross member. It could have something to do with the CTS 11/12 updates. I'm really second guessing now, could two of them go to the rear mount?

Re: SD220 Front Motor Mounts

looks like you got the 4 blocks that go to rear mount set up instead of front mounts,

not all these sellers know a thing about their products,

Re: SD220 Front Motor Mounts

I believe you hit the nail on the head. I've bought tons of stuff from them and they've never made a mistake. I stand corrected!!

I went to the Restoration Specialties catalog and it says the "Green Diamond 220" requires 2 lower motor mounts. The "Silver Diamond 220"
requires 4 lower mounts. I don't know. One thing I don't like about their catalog is they don't list L,R,S motor mounts. Everything is under K series.

Return to L, R and S
