Re: cheap chassis

Not much of value there, if there was something you needed, like a steering box it might be worth it. Basically it is everything left over with a chassie swap. Even those keeping on an original chassie may do a rear axle swap and the frames are fairly light duty.
Whole parts truck go for not much more and give you a lot more for your money.

Re: cheap chassis

I had a good look at the frame. This frame does not show cracking in the usual places. I hope someone can use it

I have owned 14 of these pickups, 13 had cracked frames.

Re: cheap chassis

Do these frames do well with boxing and gusseting?

Re: cheap chassis

If a person welds on these Old IHC frames they are signing the frame's death warrant. The frames are designed to flex. Where the amateur weld stops is where the flex energy will escape and the now weakened/annealed metal frame will crack again,100% .
These frames are a simple ladder design. Building a replacement frame is easy enough. Bolt-on carefully designed brackets and strengthening bars is a good idea. The fasteners should be grade 8 and tightened with a torque wrench, to spec. All holes should be drilled one size under and reamed to size. Grade 8 washer must be used under all fasteners to distribute the load around the fastener. Frame flanges should never be drilled. cut or welded on. CB89 knows the rules on truck frames better than anyone. The rules CB is familiar with for heavy highway trucks apply to pickups, as well.
There are a few bird $hit welders on this forum. It was easy to see they did not have a clue because they posted pictures of the welds and bad reasons why they did what they did.
When one of these pickup frames has cracked and repair is necessary, repairs can be made. Welding and drilling can be done with care and attention. TIG welding is a better option for weld repair.
We carefully inspected the IHC frame that was under my IHC crewcab. It did not take long to count over 100 cracks. The frame was sent to recycling. I bought another IHC frame to replace it. The replacement frame is 221 inches long. This "R" frame is came from a truck that had less than 20.000 miles on the clock. It was barn stored for 9 months of every year since 1953. The truck was an orchard truck.
Yes the 150 frame is heavier. It is much longer by about 6 feet. The original frame was 350# less. This is a small weight penilty to pay for a certified factory crack free frame.
