Ash Tray Trivia

Few of us use them today but it got me wondering yesterday when I had the truck out for a drive were they a standard item or an option? I haven't seen a 50's L, R, S without one but on the other hand it was the 50's, EVERYBODY smoked so if someone was buying a new truck back then it would have been a must have item even if it was an option. Anybody have the definitive answer on this?

Re: Ash Tray Trivia

I honestly believe they were standard back then. I don't think I've ever seen a 60s or older car without one.

My 1940 Ford had 4 ash trays OEM.

Re: Ash Tray Trivia

Now my head is overflowing with obscure trivia... ( Great Topic LIne )

What does the gold bulldog signify on the hood of a Mack Truck?

Electrical linemen frequently work in trucks with what specialized piece of equipment attached that is used to stabilize them at great heights?

If you look at a wheel hub like the face of a clock, to what positions should you fill it when you’re using a semi-fluid grease, according to rules
published by the Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Associations.? Mr. Corn binder ?

And to finish - What was the original truck ashtray used for ?? Our man in Canada?

What has Harvey's ashtray be converted into ? - I'll take this one - a fly storage compartment ...

Be safe all

What was the original ashtray used for?

Since my dad didn't smoke, he stored a few spare .22 LR rounds there for when he went squirrel hunting.

Re: Ash Tray Trivia

All my ash trays are coin collectors now. I randomly empty them and cash in the change.

Re: Ash Tray Trivia

my 55 Crown Imperial had 3ashtrays and 3 cigarette lighters,

L, R, S, ash tray was standard equipment, K, KB had an optional ashtray, very rare, farmers didn't pony up the $2.50 more for an ashtray

Thanks for solving that mystery.

I don't think many farmers went the extra $7.50 for a chrome front bumper either.

Here's one for the L-R-S crowd:

Every ashtray pull knob I've seen has a defect in the plastic. Is my experience unique?

Re: Ash Tray Trivia

I can't really say, I have only seem the knobs in the two IH's I've owned plus the ones I come across in junkyards. Down here the UV from the sun turns them into white crumbly bits.
