L-112 rear cab mount pads

Hello All, I am getting ready to remount my cab and was wondering what others have used for a replacement for the rubber pads on the rear mounts...I have looked at a pads listed here previously from Mac's and at some 1/2' thick rubber material that I would have to cut to size from surplus.com...just interested to see what others have used.

thanks, Terrell

I cut round rubber pads from tire sidewalls. Your idea of cutting from rubber stock works as well.

Thanks Nik, I had forgotten that I have the remainder of a old semi mud flap that I made radiator mounts out of years ago....I will go that route.

Thanks again,
Terrell

Re: L-112 rear cab mount pads

The rubber does little more than softening the bumping of the cab on the frame. The OEM instalation would have a bolt and spring combination to allow the cab to lift when the frame flexed. These trucks have floppy frames that get looser with age and miles. Do not try to make the frame firm by welding. The frame will crack at each weld and may break.
If the cab is bolted firmly to the frame, the cab, frame or both could be damaged from the frame flexing.

Re: L-112 rear cab mount pads

I bought four machine isolator pads. The pads were made of a 1/2" bolt welded to the center of a steel cup. The rubber part was an official NHL rubber puck. I have used an old puck for a jacking pad when I had a Porsche.
I asked You Tube for other things to do with a hockey puck. I do not want to attach a link. Some of it is really stupid.

I cut up some mats that were used for floor covering in a gym's weight room.

Thanks for the input All! I have all the original mounting hardware , blasted, repainted and ready to install with the pads that I cut out. So exciting to actually see progress as it goes back together!!!

Appreciate all the help!

I’m a huge fan of hockey pucks. Is it 24 or 26 needed for a fifties bel air?
