international L 162 questions

Does anyone know of a rebuild kit for an l160 engine. I believe it's the sd240 engine???

Re: international L 162 questions

It is very unlikely there will be a kit. There are too many variables. Each surface needs to be measured accurately. Grinding may be required and this will change the measurements, again. So, the answer is no. The best you could hope for is a gasket set.

Are pistons and rings still available?

I don't know. If your engine needs pistons, it likely needs to have the cylinders bored to make them straight and parallel. A line bore may be necessary and grinding the engine block on top.
There is little to be gained from tossing in a bunch of new parts if the engine is worn out.
Plan on spending over $2000 for a rebuild. There is no substitute for a proper rebuild. Anything less is throwing parts away.
At some point, a machine shop will have to resize the engine and measure for new parts. Unless this is done, money spent on new parts that may not fit is throwing money away.

Yes but you have to hunt for them.... And as Nikki said it would be prudent to have the block and head checked before throwing parts in it. That being said, $2k for a rebuild in today's world isn't bad. Rebuild a buick nailhead you're at 5k easy.

Egge has engine kits & Mahle has engine kits for IH engines. Its just a matter of searching the internet for stuff. Have a look for yourself. I would start with Egge out of California first.

Re: international L 162 questions

My advice is to have a machine shop look over the block and advise as to the Minimum over bore that it would take to clean the bores and have them do the same for the crank. Then go looking for pistons and bearing that are take size at a minimum. no point boring to +.020 and only finding +.040 pistons. same for crank, no point cutting to -.005 and only find -.010 bearings. do this BEFORE and machine work is done.
worse case you can sleeve the bore back to std, and may be able to re-use the pistons depending on condition.
rings can be bought by size and shape, so likely no problem there.
A good machine shop will know all this and advise as to what they can find.
