L-110 heater paint

I am currently rebuilding the standard heater for my L-110 and I was wondering if it is necessary to use heat resistant paint or if just regular Rust-Oleum spray paint will work?

Re: L-110 heater paint

The heater will never get hotter than the temperature of the engine. The maximum temperature may be 195 Fahrenheit.
Copy and paste :
Painting Conditions: Use when temperature is above 50˚F (10˚C) and humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to surfaces that exceed 200˚F (93˚C) or galvanized metal. Preparation: Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper.

Re: L-110 heater paint

Could I use just a resistant primer and then regular paint? On the descriptions for paints I was looking at, it doesn't say what their temperature capacity is.

Re: L-110 heater paint

You could go on the internet and Google for that information the same way I or anyone else would have to.
Don't over think this simple task. The paint company web site should have more information than you need.

The heater housing will probably never be too hot to touch which is about 150F. My opinion anyways.

Re: L-110 heater paint

Your opinion is 100% correct, Dennis.
Rustoleum and Tremclad don't need primer, unless otherwise specified.
These paints survive nicely on engines. Exhaust, not so much.

Re: L-110 heater paint

If you have access to a heat gun, it helps with getting a much nicer and professional finish. A little heat helps the paint to be ready sooner for the next coat. I never put the het gun close to the work. Try 15 inches. It worked for me. After the last coat, leave it alone for 24 hours.
I painted a set of BBS, $1000 each wheels for my Ford. My paint choice was Tremclad. This is the Canadian equivalent to USA Rustoleum. They are the same company, now. I will attach a picture or two to encourage you to do the same or better.

Re: L-110 heater paint

Years ago when I got my heater re-cored I painted the box, all I did was scuff it, then primer and paint, it still looks good after twenty or so years.
