Dodge was one, and I think some of the older Motor homes up in the 60's early 70's. That's all I can remember.

tigwelder,
Studebaker was another, but finding an old Stude might be harder than finding an old IH.

Are yours lock ring 16" or 17" The tires for both those sizes are easier to find than for the 17.5 solids on the Metro. Your other options are to replace the axles. Not into it much but some of the 4x4 forums might have ideas on bearing/hub exchanges.

Just my thoughts

My L 130 has Budd Wheels, 6 bolts on 7 1/4 pattern, 16" and rims with rings. I'm using 7.50X16 tires.

Re: budd wheels

There are a few option on the "Big 6" lock ring wheels.
1) keep them, but you'll probably be changing them yourself (CAREfully) because if you take them to a tire shop they'll evacuate the block and call in the bomb squad. You can try taking it to a TRUCK shop, but might pay an arm & a leg (I heard one shop wanted $150 a wheel to change it- probably just trying to get rid of the guy)

2) D@dge power wagon wheels from about the same era, BUT they are 16.5 inch wheels and there are precious few (and expensive) options when it comes to tires. Might pay upwards of $200 per tire for them. (haven't spotted any F@rd wheels with the pattern and can't say what diameter they are.

3) Have some made. Stockton Wheel will make them for about $200 a wheel, but you can choose your diameter (within reason) and the tire shops will change your tires for regular price- and you can have a bigger selection of tires. OR 3b) make some yourself- I have an extra set I'm going to cut the centers out of and take down to the junkyard to see if I can find a set that fits good then have a GOOD welder (not me! ) put the two together. I'll post up the results once the task is done, but this is far down my list right now and I'm being outrun by glaciers when it comes to progress.

4) swap axles- most difficult time-consuming and expensive option, but can install some with wide option of wheels and replacement parts and even disc brakes. Others have done this and can advise on best axles for your application.

Hope this helps
Gary

Re: budd wheels

Found a couple other options, Marsh Racing wheels will make a set to your specs for $100-$200.

There's a "Budd" style wheel here with a 6x7.25 pattern, but it's 14x5 so doubt it's going to fit anything- offset doesn't look right either.

Re: budd wheels

My old '53 R130 has 17" Budd wheels. They are 3 piece rims and the local tire shops won't even look at them, I however am not afraid to work around these as I have done so in the past. All they require is a good respect and a bit of common sense like chains and/or a tire cage before airing them up.
