Did you ever get a clear weight?
I know my R-162 with wooden side dump bed weighted in at 8,500 Lbs.
My dump also was not working properly until I filled the reservoir on the top of the lift cylinder and then it worked great. used a heck of a lot more fluid than I had thought it would though. I think I added close to 2 gallons.

The truck driver said it's under 9k. I haven't weighed it myself as it needs some things before I go driving around. Were you able to add fluid with the bed down?

It would be interesting to see where you are at weight wise. I know mine is a 160 series with a BD264 and manual brakes so it should be a little lighter. it is a 12' steel bed, just wood sides.
luckily for me the bed still rose partially making filling easier. I assume there would be room in there with it down but it would require me to go rolling in the mud to do so.

Wow. Big difference between my last truck with the SD motor and this one. Where do I find gaskets for the 282? Looks like rockauto is a bust

Thanks. Interestingly O'Reilly's carries a lot for R series up to R130 and RM132 but only offer the 220 engine as an option

Victor-Reinz FS3031, but told now out of production, I bought may be 15 years ago. That is a full set pan to valvecover.

Worked on her a little today. Idles way too high. I've got the idle screw as low as it goes. I think the electric fuel pump is pushing too much fuel in. Anyone know what the thing under the carb is? Someone converted to 12v neg ground. Starter, generator coil and regulator are all marked 12v. This wiring is a nightmare though. Also needs a clutch, that should be fun....
Do y'all think this weld in the frame is original? The over plate runs the full length and has thespring perches all riveted through it.

Thing under the carb is the governor. There is a phenolic spacer between it and the carb that helps isolate the engine heat from making it to the carb.
High idle with closed throttle, may be vacuum leak, or the throttle plate may no be centered in the bore preventing it from closing all the way.
1st check that the throttle linkage is not holding the throttle open.
If the fuel pump is pushing too much gas past the needle and seat, it would flood and the idle would be low.
