It looks like, and it should be, a tapered axle Dana 44.

I agree with the above, some iteration of a Dana axle rear cover (rear loading) shape is that of a Dana axle. IHC designed axle are front loading. Ford 8.8 axles which often get swapped in have a more rounded rear cover bolt pattern.

Thank you CB for input as well.

Nikki, thank you for the link to visuals for identification. It's looking closes to a Dana 44, as Paul and CB initially said.

I want to again thank you guys (PaulH, CB89, Nikki), for nailing this rear end, just from my earlier picture of it. It has warmed up here, so I was able to remove some grit and grime from it and uncovered the numbers 44-1 on the back.

This first picture is of the front bumper of this truck, which is not original to the truck. I'm removing it to try and straighten it and address the rust on the back side of it. See second picture.

Do anyone know of a replacement that will fit without major fabrication? I saw a post on this site stating a F1 fits a 56.

Do you think the F1 will fit the 54 or 55 IHC?
I'm really trying to be cautious in purchasing, as I've been scammed out of $400.00 for a bumper.

They really drilled out the front of the frame. Shouldn't be a problem to find a hole to use with a replacement bumper, should I find a suitable bumper.
