"someone" has his facts wrong!

Ethan, If you have the original motor and want it to sound "healthy" just run a straight pipe, it will bellow. Your original motor can be tweaked a bit by using a Turbo(ask kevin) but these motors were NEVER made for real High performance, just a good solid motor that takes lots of abuse and keeps on running and "doing the JOB"
Now my opinion on the "hot rod" sites, They are great, for the Big three and someone with lots of money and time and a REAL NICE shop. Fun to read and dream, but NOT really for an early originally equipped International.
These are my thoughts and If I do not express it very well and hurt someone's feelings, OH well. Tell me and we can discuss it.
Do like I have, In the stable, 67 cougar, 76 MG Midget, 54 Desoto, 63 Corvair van, Several Dune Buggies, and a couple of Internationals, Oh and Newer vehicles for everyday driving. Pick one of the "customizable" ones and do it to that one.

X pipes have been well documented to increase exhaust system efficiency and torque in V8 applications. I hadn't heard of an X pipe being used in a 6 cylinder application, so I googled it.
http://www.how-to-diy.org/wqs41FiXWDhZM ... -pipe.html
There is a definite difference in the sound in these examples. Of course having an X pipe means that you have two headers to begin with. I didn't see any mention of whether they were using the usual 3 front cylinders into 1 header and 3 rear cylinders into another header, or another cylinder combination.
An exhaust system has no bearing on cranking compression, as it is normally measured by a compression tester.

Like Loyd said, run a straight pipe or install a Cherry Bomb (I did for a few years), a Thrush, a Smitty, or muffler of your choice. They will make sound for you and it will never be "muscular" from an SD engine.

A cross pipe can help scavangeing on a well designed system, or can do nothing, if not. It can not effect compression... period! Tuneing an intake and exhaust system to provide the best scavangeing (and the best volumetric efficency) is not just bolting on parts, the cam, RPM, runner leinth, and config of other ports in the fireing order must be taken into account.
Any tuneing only has an effect at the turned RPM and throttle setting, it adds nothing and can have negitive effects outside of the tuned perameters... There is no free lunch. Ram tuneing a small inline IHC is waste of effort as the ports are "simamiesed" anyway.
If you want the cheapest bang for the buck, ask Kevin about his Keystone turbo kit.

Ethan,
Based on many pf your posts and questions, Sounds like you want a sleeper truck...something that looks slow but then leaves others still at the red light.
You're not going to get it from a old farm work truck with original equipment. It pulled strong but not fast.
You seem to want old school look with new high end performance. I think what you really want is not achievable with the Standard engine that came with the truck. But if money is no option...anything is possible.

People are going to envy you in your truck....you don't need to be showy with noise and speed or HP for them to say "I wish I had that truck". My 2 cents.

Mine are SW 94143, so may not work. They may or may not mate to the drive gear and give you an output that can be adapted to with a gear box adaptor to the speed ratio you need A little more digging in the books would be required, they have the IHC part number of: 63286H

I would love a sleeper, but I do know im not going to get it from this truck, unless i do engine swaps suspension upgrades and spend oodles of money I dont have, only thing I really want at this point is to keep up with traffic and a really cool deep sound doesnt have to be hot rod fast, ill save all my speed demon dreams for a later project

Do you have a picture of it?
