Not sure about "speed between gears". Depending on the ratio difference between the gears in the transmission you have now, and the ratio of the OD, the biggest advantage to splitting gears would be to enhance the stock engines ability to move a heavy load. More gears allows the engine to work in its peak torque band, and have less dip in RPM s between gears. If your truck is loaded lightly, you cool just shift it normally, until you reached hooray speed, then shift to overdrive.

The NV4500 adapter kit bolts to the back of the IH bellhousing, so you retain your original IH bellhousing, whether it be V8, I4 or I6. This is an advantage over swapping the bellhousing, too, as in the I6 truck the rear motor mounts are on the stock bellhousing.

Re: 5 speed OD

I think its an option for the 2WD trucks, as far as a 4WD, it would be more work considering the transfer case would have to be moved back, linkage etc. I see Novack makes an adapter to attach a mated 300 transfer case to the NV, which adds more cost and time, I have been looking at the Gear Vendors stand alone unit would be around the same cost but an easy install compared to the NV trans as far as 4WD. Gear Vendors does not make an adapter for the NP-200.
INFO ONLY
I believe Gear Vendors makes an adapter for the T-18-19 trans.

how much is an adapter kit? and what transmission can you hook up to it and your engine?

The price (and a lot of other information) is easily seen by following the link earlier in this thread. http://www.shopih.com/CPT-NV4500-ADPTR-KIT-p-MT.html And it seems obvious to me that an NV4500 adapter is an adapter for an NV4500 transmission.

Any of the inlines are **** good, but I wouldn't go thru the trouble of an engine swap for a "tired" engine. It is cheaper and quicker to rebiuld (even if sleeveing is required) then to yank out and start from scratch.

Not sure how this is true. 300 I6 rebuild kits are about $350 USD and come with new cam. Granted steel timing gear would be extra( or hyper pistons). With boring, decking and line hone the 300 I6 should be about a grand or less for a rebuild. Im guessing the SD220 is a bit more.
