Re: Borg Warner

Did International at all offer a o/drive in 52 ? only I saw one advertised as 3 speed with overdrive? Shifter was on the floor, sd220 engine L110, do you think he meant 4 speed with granny low that I keep seeing? Could someone please explain. Thanks.

Re: Borg Warner

I'm pretty sure the overdrive wasn't available in the L-series...and it might not have been available in the R- or S-series. To MY knowledge, IH didn't offer overdrive in a pickup until they started using the Borg-Warner T-85 3-speed...which may have been in the '57-'58 A-series.

But the T-85 was column-shifted...a "three-on-the-tree."

I've seen [and almost bought] an A-series pickup with overdrive. I haven't seen, up-close-and-personal, an L, R, or S-series pickup with overdrive.

**EDIT** I just checked the MT-97 IH factory parts manual on John Hansen's website, and it shows that an HNS transmission was available in the R-100 and R-110 with overdrive. http://www.hansenwebdesign.com/truck/files/manuals/parts/13%20Transmissions.pdf

No such transmission is listed for an L-110. According to the CTS-11 L-series service manual, the only overdrive transmissions available for the L-series were the Fuller transmissions [which were all 5-speeds, available only on the larger trucks. http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17591582/International%20Manuals/CTS-11/CTS-11-L-Line_Transmission.pdf

Re: Borg Warner

I believe I say believe that OD was an option late in S series production, as my buddy had an S with it. now that's not saying it came from factory with it.

but since 1957 A series offered it and S went into 1957,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Re: Borg Warner

Jon, you are correct on the "S" series OD for the 3 speed. Hard to find in good condition.

Re: Borg Warner

I went out to my garage and looked at my 3 Borgwarners, all sitting in a row,

and all I could think was "we are borg, resistance is futile"

Ethan, I missed this ????
That would probably fit, depending if it is in good working order, that may be a T-18 wide or close ratio, keep in mind what ratios you want in your truck, I prefer the T-19A for drive ability. I only tow stuff once in a while. The info I am posting are for newer IH trans for anyone to check out. Again, notice the ratios, the 6 to 1 is the granny gear, your 3 speed is 3 to 1, the T-19A is 4 to 1 or so.
On the sleeve I changed on my T-19A was off the stock T-98, direct bolt in, you may want to look at a parts manual on this site for your truck in the library section and see if your 3 speed sleeve is the same part number as the T-98 that was available in your truck.
The Scout 4WD trans will not work for you only 2WD trans.
Hope this helps.
