Re: Sungear

on these little 6 engines is a 2.5 inch dual exhaust with X pipe ok to run with out say a huge loss in compression or low end torque

Re: Sungear

You're kidding. Right?
To have an X pipe means you need dual exhaust. To have dual exhaust you'd have to have a split exhaust manifold............ (And others will chime in, I'll bet.)

Re: Sungear

An X pipe is ONLY called for when you have two manifolds, or at least two outlets on your manifold.

Are you just messing with us here? Some of the things you ask make me think either a) you read too many hi-performance V8 car magazines, or b) you have zero experience with anything automotive, or c) you actually get some sort of perverse enjoyment out of having us try to explain the automotive technology you already know in simpler-than-layman's terms.

I'm beginning to think it's actually c, and you're just messing with us because you know somebody will take the time to explain stuff that should be obvious.

IF you would use an X-pipe...and IF the engine you use only has a SINGLE exhaust manifold with a SINGLE outlet...THINK ABOUT IT: what feeds the second pipe, to even make the X necessary? When you figure it out, YOU explain it to ME. :t0174:

I've got a degree in automotive technology, but I'm done here. :t10512: this :t10512:

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how you "loose compression" with a low resitiction exhaust.... Next will hear it "needs backpressure"! :t0174:

If someone understands a)what compression is, and b) how it's produced, and c) what reduces compression, comments like this would not occur. I try to educate when I can, but sometimes I get the impression that some don't want to learn. IMHO, someone should understand how an engine operates--at least the basics of suck, squeeze, bang, and blow--before asking how to modify the engine.

But then...maybe I hold people to too high a standard. :t10512:

Re: Sungear

... I was going to have a custom split header made and someone told me that with an X pipe you can lose back pressure and it lowers compression
