Re: Antique Truck Club of America

I can confirm those are the factory bed extensions, I have a set for my longbed and they are the factory version (confirmed by Dad, he used to sell the trucks). They are rare, most farmers used wooden extensions if at all due to the cost. :t3901;

An L sold near me a couple of years ago that had those factory extensions. It was completely restored to like new and out of my price range, which was probably a good thing. VWJake's truck came with a set, too. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1655

Great, happy to be corrected. If I had know how rare they were, I would have taken more photos of them.

True. I'm still a ways off of cleaning them up, but does anyone know if the bed side kit came with something to top the tailgate with as well? My tailgate hinges at both the top and bottom. It would seem ideal to have an extension across the back too for maximum capacity.

Once I get around to them I'd be happy to dimension everything for reproduction purposes.

Re: Antique Truck Club of America

VWJake - my extension included the tailgate section, there is an image of it in my gallery (sitting on the garage floor) and on the truck in another image. The extension for the tailgate extended down farther than and set inside the top four inches or so of the tailgate. It hung from bolts at the top of the extension and pivoted out from the top corners. So if you opened the gate normally with a load, the extension would pivot up toward your face. I remember you have that dual purpose tailgate, I'll bet that is a rarity, I had not seen any before yours. I would assume if you opened yours from the bottom, the gate's extension would have no safety issue at all. 8-)

Re: Antique Truck Club of America

Hit the gallery link on the main website, hit the gallery link in the middle of the page and my gallery is Robert Rhodes, click on it and you will see the images (two pages) - the image of the truck is as I obtained it, I haven't got any image yet of the restored version, the extension color is now the same as the top of the cab and hood. :t0119:

Re: Antique Truck Club of America

Wow... That truck looks terrific! I'll probably be looking for a few more pics of that gate when I get to mine.
