Re: 5 speed OD

if you are looking for a T-5 they were used in S-10 pick-ups and the shifter is in the middle of the trans which would line up better in the floor pan.

It's a 5 speed overdrive, I have one in Rusty but it is hooked to an Olds Quad4.

Anything can be mated to anything else if you are willing to do the work and engineering.
To mate a trans to an engine it wasn't designed for, there is more then getting it to bolt onto the back of the engine. As other have mentioned there is clutch spline, depth and distance from the input shaft bearing, there is pilot bearing and flywheel, clutch pressure plate and disk. as well as alignment issues and shift tower, there is thowout bearing and clutch fork.
All in all it is not for the weekend mechanic unless you buy a pre-engineered "kit (if such a thing exists).
All of this assumes that you have done the math to see if it is even a good match to the engine power curve and the rear ratio.
Haveing a 5 speed that doesn't match the torque curve of the engine in question can be a wasted effort.
Do your homework before you start down this road.

The 300 I-6 is a very good motor. Very durable. When the Sd220 finally dies, a 300-6 will go in.

If overdrive manual is your goal, I'll bet a divorced gear vendors overdrive is going to be about the simplest with the stock engine.

Any of the inlines are **** good, but I wouldn't go thru the trouble of an engine swap for a "tired" engine. It is cheaper and quicker to rebiuld (even if sleeveing is required) then to yank out and start from scratch.

Who said you HAVE to "split gears"?
My posts contain my own opinions...your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear, and alcohol may intensify any side effects.
