Re: Steering column removal

Is there a reason you are trying to separate them? If you want to remove from truck...best to loosen steering gear box bolts and remove lower front floor pan and remove through the cab after all linkages are disconnected.

Rich,

The box has play in the sector shaft. How will the steering box go through the firewall?

Re: Steering column removal

I figured it out. Steering wheel and shifter must come off and then it will pull out through the engine compartment. I am used to modern cars and this was a little learning experience!

Re: Steering column removal

Mark,

Isn't your steering column bolted to the dash? If so you can unbolt it. Remove the forward floor pan as I have shown. The dimmer switch will have to be disconnected or removed from fwd floor pan. Gas pedal rod will need to be removed from back of gas pedal. If you can remove the fwd floor pan you will not have to mess with your gear shift if a 4-spd.

I assume the '52 cab is the same as the '50.

Thanks! My '52 is the same. There is so much rust scale, I could not tell it had bolts!

Re: Steering column removal

I removed mine a little differently...I had to take out the broken back window anyways so I just pulled the whole column out through the back window...guess i gotta get the column and gear box...back in place before I can put new glass in.
