Very good explanation, B72.

Yeah it was a 426 heres the exact photo the Dealer showed me and I just said nope and decided to start with my little 220 since i already have it and know the block and 90% of the parts are in good shape

Re: Straight 6

I just went back to some old data sheets in the archives here.

The SD-220 had 6.5:1 compression when it left the factory.

Just posting that to set the record straight.

Re: Straight 6

My friend and I talked to John Force when he was in Bedrock John's area. That man sure has tons of energy. He gave the explanation of extreme electric pressure from the magnetos on his Funny Car having to overcome the charge air and fuel mix in the cylinders. So it is pressure versus pressure and when the cylinder pressure is greater than the ignition pressure the Binder gets a misfire and JF drops a cylinder, quite literally.
It seems that as we go through life, we are trying to control our resistance and pressures. It is an ongoing event with an occasional nasty surprise in old age. . . An imbalance could stall your engine or get you sent away from the dinner table. As if it isn't bad enough to worry about smelling like pee as my Grandfather did, some nasty person decided that this time of my life should be call the GOLDEN YEARS.

Buzz, a better alternative to water injection is methanol injection from Snow Performance, you can get it from Summit Racing. Methanol injection on turbo or blown engines lowers the charge air temperature and quells the detonation. Check it out. http://www.snowperformance.net/

Info Only, water alcohol injection is used on the tractor I6-- IH engines, I was going to try it but with a new carb with an adjustable jet, don't need it. I run 93 octane.

Re: Straight 6

FWIW, In WW2 the U.S.,Brits and Germans used alcohol/water injection in many engines both water cooled inline and air cooled radial for extra power at high altitudes. Most were super charged engines (Roots type etc.),the U.S. was the only one that used turbo-superchargers at the time. It was limited to about 5 minutes use at a time though before cylinder temps got too high.

Re: Straight 6

This is all getting "out there" for a mildly boosted IHC 6 cyl with a C/R of 6.5-7.0. With a boost pressure of 7-10 psi on regular pump gas, stock ign and no injection of water or anything else will be required. At most Premimum gas may be a good idea.
Saab runs 8.5 CR and 10 psi boost on the 900 turbo. It runs a stock ign coil and vac advance/ pressure retard dist.
