Re: Hand brake cables

I kinda thought the moral of the story was to ALWAYS block your wheels!

Re: Hand brake cables

Wheels turned to the curb is a good plan when parked on hills...assuming there is a curb.

While we are on the subject, The E-brake cable to the rear drums goes through a sleeve that has grease fittings on it. This sleeve starts where the cable goes through the frame and connects to the back of the brake hub. Is this part available anywhere? Almost looks like electrical conduit. How do you guys normally clean this part? Disconnect and run Diesel fuel through sleeve to clean out old grease and then clean outside and add coat or primer and paint? Mine is also missing the spring that held it back to the frame near the rear wheel.

Re: Hand brake cables

I had the same problem. I used the Lokar U-Cut-to-Fit Rear Brake Cable Kit

http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/ebrake ... cable.html

for 1942 to 1954 Chevy Trucks. I took apart the original parking brake cables and used the brackets for anchor points through the frame. I had to build a bracket for the cables to attach to the drum and anchor in there. If i can find my design diagrams I will try to post them for the bracket. I could not find anything that matched the old ones, but this worked really well.
