S hood hinge option

I have a 1957 s and I am not thrilled with the factory hood option. Just not enough room or visibility. Has anyone modified the hood hinges to a standard hood or forward tilting hood? Any info would be appreciated . Thanks

Thanks Kevin. Definitely don't want a tilt nose. Would just like to modify the hood. I thought I read somewhere that there is a different hood that will fit but has sprung stock hinges.

Re: S hood hinge option

there is no other stock hood that has different hinge set up (that I know of)

I saw post on here a while back someone bought a truck that a guy made it lift like a regular hood using door hinges bolted thru body

very badly done, don't think that's what you are looking for, you Know the whole hood lift off to get full access, right?

or you can put a taller support rod, the original is pretty short,

The problem is that with a taller support rod you end up with hood to fender interference.

Re: S hood hinge option

I got pretty good at lifting the hood off my L panel truck by myself, stood on a crate in front of truck flip up the levers and lift,

but an S doesn't have the outer levers,,,,,hm, need a buddy to lift it off with you,

I've lifted the hood off my S 150 by myself. It would be nicer to have two guys, but one can do it.

Re: S hood hinge option

I saw a Craigslist ad once for an R or S series that had been put on a Dodge Dakota frame. The Dakota hinges had been mounted to the firewall to make the hood open in the conventional manner. I wish now that I would have saved pictures.
