After close to 20 years, the L-110 runs again!

My Grandfather brought this L-110 new in November of 1952 from Edgerton Alberta, its between Lloydminster & Wainwright if you look on a map. He drove it home 17 miles were is lived for the last 62 years. I drove it 12 miles(round trip) each day to high school in 1993 for Grade 12. After that drove a F150, the L was parked in different sheds. Was really put away properly, fuel tank wasn`t drained, engine wasn't fogged, etc

Since live in Alberta, season of warm isn't very long. So have to do all the winter projects during the summer as don't have a heated shop. With a lot projects the L was always put off, time sure flew. About 20 years later, its still sitting. Finally had enough, had a 30x50x14 shop built. Now have a place for winter projects. The L has been sitting in the shop since last fall, better than were it was sitting full of mice. Spent a weekend cleaning out the cab, had the seat run done by a 80 year upholstery guy. Colour is a bit off to factory, but its million times better to the worn out seat that was there.

In couple weeks, the IH Chapter 38 Western Canada is having there show. The Chapter covers about 3000 kms or 1864 miles, massive amount of land but lacking volume of people. Been trying to get it running for the show, as its only 2 hours away from me. Last week was able to get back to the L, didn't have any spark. Have power to the coil, checked for power across the primary side of the coil. Nothing, ordered a set of points. I haven't ever installed points. Got them in, poured some gas down the carb. Turned it over, just about started. Tried again, it ran some more. Looked in the tank, yuck. Put the cap back on, that's other project. Ran fuel line to the fuel pump from jerry can, got my Dad to run the key. Finally pump started working, engine ran on its own. He had a pretty big smile. Got him to pump the brakes, said they kinda work. Good enough for me, told him to drive it down the drive way. Off he went, it drove 900 ft down & 900 ft back into the shop. Then he said, haven't drove that truck in the along time with a pretty big grin.

I will post up some pictures soon, just exciting that it runs again. Going to change fluids & a bit of tlc.

Thats great you got it mobile again. I would be very surprised if you don't have to spend some money on the brakes though. I just got a pair of new rear wheel cylinders for my B110. Old ones were seized up solid after (only) 55 years and it only had front brakes. Fine around the yard but at even 30 mph a little scary stopping. Good news is they are not expensive and not hard to find at Napa. Well actually they were hard to find at Napa until I got the right numbers here on this site. Apparently my B110 has B100 brakes. Good luck with yours.

Glad to hear your truck is mobile again!

Also a side note - treasure those times with your dad. I lost mine this spring and would give about anything to spend some time with him again.

I image there is a lot of things that need tlc on this old truck. Was just happy that it ran without too much effort, kinda amazed at that part. At least it will drive onto the trailer for next weekend & off. Have a Farmall H with a belly mower that's next on the list. The L will have to wait for winter for repairs to start again, starting with the fuel tank.

That one definitely looks like a keeper! It's in very nice condition for its age. All the chrome 'mustache' bars are on the grille and there is no rust-through around the park lights. Very nice!
