Reverse lights switch

I did not happen to see this when I did a search. Has anyone added a reverse switch to turn on rear lights when backing up. This would be more for safety for others than for use at night. Seems would have to have a switch on the reverse linkage somewhere.

Do new wiring harnesses typically include ground wires to all the lights or do they assume you are using the frame for the return ground?

Re: Reverse lights switch

I haven't yet, but its on my list. On a side shift trans I think a quick bracket and an adjustable aftermarket brake switch or a harsh environment micro switch would do the trick. As for grounding, a few will tell you that ground wires are the best setup to reduce future rust on your truck. I'm running ground wires for everything because I'm building my own harness and I want to ensure the lights perform to their full potential. I'll still strap the frame to the cab and wire them to the battery. When wiring stuff I can be a bit of a belt and suspenders guy. My truck will have relays for quite a few things as well to save stress on the switching devices and maximize current flow to the consumer as well.

Re: Reverse lights switch

I just wired in a toggle switch in classic shade tree mechanic fashion. I just hit it when I am going to back up and wha la, back up lights :)

Re: Reverse lights switch

I had planned on running ground wires to my lights to prevent frame grounding issues as well. Nice to hear others thoughts about it.
I thought of installing a 2nd dimmer switch on the floor board for back-up lights. Would have the see if that will work with my size 13 feet.
The switch would have to handle the environment more as it will most likely be near the Transmission linkage. I like the micro switch idea.
