Oil Filler Tube

How do I get the oil filler tube off of my GD 214 engine? Dos it twist out?

Bob,

They are pressed in as stated. A rubber mallet is used to "tap" the filler pipe side to side until it's lose enough to remove. This also makes it too loose to install correctly. Once out, clean the pipe thoroughly. Using a propane torch heat it enough to apply solder to the end of the tube that fits into the block. You wont need much, just enough to coat the tube. Reinstall. I've done this hundreds of times, it works. We also did this for oil pickup tubes on GM cars.

I recently did this to my GD213

I've never thought of that approach. Probably would work well for dipstick tubes, too.

Good tip, I just gnarled up the insert part and tapped it back in

Me too, but it always seemed to leak a little. I think the soft solder would give a better seal.
