Heater/fan, shutoff, ducts, hoses

Heater fan was rubbing the shroud, defrost duct hoses were falling apart, coolant shutoff valve to the heater core was frozen in the closed position, heater core hoses were very hard (almost brittle) and besides hating the corragated radiator hoses, they were soft & gummy. Used some of the part numbers that other members have posted.

Heater core hose: 5/8" local auto parts store
Upper radiator hose: 1 1/2" by 12" part # NAPA 609 sold by the foot. Very tight fit going onto the thermostat gooseneck, nice fit on the radiator.
Lower radiator hose: Dayco 71103. Loose fit on both ends, I would have liked tighter. Cut about 1" off the radiator side to eliminate slight kink at the 90 degree bend. Next time, I would try the other part number listed in the parts section. Note: radiator side has the slightly larger diameter.
Defrost duct hose: Gates 23828. 1 3/4". 1 box will be enough for both, about 8" left over out of the 6ft.

Nut, which held the motor to the housing, was almost backed off. Causing fan to rub.

Motor. To install the armature, there are small holes in the motor end bell. I put a piece of string through the hole, around the brush shunt and back out of the same hole. Slide the brush back and pull on the string to keep the shunt held back. Do the same for the other brush. Then install the armature.

Motor has square holes for the bolts. Bolts have 4 raised sections on the head side. Bolts are long and hold the motor together and go through the housing to hold it to the shroud.

Motor, shaft end bell housing removed. Brass bearings both ends. Cleaned and applied light coat of grease.

Armature removed. There is a washer on each end of the shaft.

Fan blade set screw shown. Blades of squirrel cage fan are cut,. Possibly for balancing? About 1/8" of the motor shaft stuck out the fan hole.

Fan hole has flat side for a set screw. Set screw has a flat raised section, no allen key, for removal.

Shoulder washers that are installed in the rubber bushings. Installed from the back side of the housing.

About 3/16" felt between motor and housing.

Removed duct vent to install hose. Vent has an oval end. You will need to smash duct hose to get it to fit. Too hard to do while still installed in dash. Removed glove box door and glove box. Secured hose using hose clamps on each end.

Removed valve and free'd it up with PB Blaster. Removed gland nut and old packing. Installed a ring of 5/32" packing, tightened it down, loosened and installed another ring.

Very detailed very informative.

Would you post a picture of the heater hose from the heater valve to heater? I'm stumped with mine.
