Fuel Sender

I was hoping to save this from the parts truck but it looks to be beyond help. What do you guys think? I am really tired of guessing how much fuel I have in the tank. I have it soaking in molasses right now.

Re: Fuel Sender

If this was my fuel level sender, I would try to give it a soaking in EVAPORUST. https://www.evapo-rust.com/ https://youtu.be/MO4lFxl6oE4
Evaporust works much better than described by the manufacturer. I like using Evaporust in an ultrasonic parts washer. The ultrasonic action will speed up the Evaporust action by 10 times. A heavily rusted 1/2 inch bolt was rust free in about 25 seconds. I had given up on removing handles from surface rusted tensioners. After 10 minutes in an Evaporust bath and ultrasonic treatment, the handle was loose and all but fell out.

Re: Fuel Sender

Mine looked pretty bad as well, soaked it in Evaporust as well, the syrup will take 3 times as long. Also when I popped the cap it looked brand new in there.

Re: Fuel Sender

I am in need of a fuel ascending unit also. Mine came out in pieces had sat for a long tome with some gas and probably got water in it as well. In the process of looking for another tank or perhaps will clean this one up but I still need the ascending unit. Is there something out there from another vehicle that will work?

Re: Fuel Sender

A good used unit from another truck may be your best bet. Some have used Ferd sending units since they were also King-Seeley style. Opinions vary on whether they are a close replacement.

Re: Fuel Sender

I am not a K or KB guy, here is a link to Tanksinc. It shows a ford sender, they also have a 6 volt sender on another page. I do have an IH one but I would need a part number. You need to find out the ohms.

Re: Fuel Sender

I have a Ferd sender in my 49 panel,

It is an original not a repop,

Some say the repop aren't accurate, some say they are,

If you look at the picture above you can see the little gear like wheel, that is a adjuster,

The dash gauge has one in back of it too, if you play with those you can adjust gauge to be as accurate or inaccurate as you like,

I learned this year's ago playing with my oil pressure gauge, I set the limiter high on it, the gauge reads higher than actual, but never pulled the dash back out to change it to where it should be,
I didn't touch the low end adjuster so I'm ok with how it reads.
