Newbie Question

Did the 1946 International KS-7 originally come with synchronizers? Only reason I'm asking is because I have limited experience driving an old Peterbilt on the farm that didn't have any synchronizers left and I thought it was going to be the death of me... The mechanic that we've picked to work on the truck is promising to start working on it after next month and I was just curious. I'm pretty sure the truck has the original transmission so the synchronizers (if it ever had any) could very well be shot...

Re: Newbie Question

Nope, it is a "crash box". Take your time and double clutch, you can't get in a rush shifting.

Re: Newbie Question

BTW the Pete didn't have syncro's either, they are also a crash box.
Most likely your K has a 5 speed, forget about low, and start in 2nd, it could have a 4spd but unlikely.
Also the trans could be O/D or direct in 5th
1 2 5
R 3 4
would be the OD shift pattern

1 2 4
R 3 5
would be the direct sift pattern

Re: Newbie Question

Thanks!
Yep the shift pattern is the direct shift pattern
Some yahoo even scratched it into the paint on the dash :t0116:
I'm going to need all the help I can get to get it into gear! :smash:

Re: Newbie Question

How well do you think this method would work? https://youtu.be/DGYuONwK7Nc
Should the clutch pedal be fully depressed while shifting?

Re: Newbie Question

Like CB posted take your time is the only way to successfully drive a non synchro transmission

If I let the line of 20 cars behind me intimidate me then I crap gears like crazy in my KB6,

If I breath and shift with patience, nice and smooth shifts give you a feeling of accomplishment.

My truck has 5th overdrive which yes, someone scratched shift pattern into the dash

Re: Newbie Question

Sounds good, I'm optimistic the truck will run once we get it in the shop.
