Data frame expert needed

:t1812: I'm looking for the frame number on the frame. Can't find it. I looked on top of the frame and side in front of the axle. What I did notice that on the engine was GRD 214 Model as per Data plate and below the 6 serialnumbers As per Data plate. So what i'm looking for is the chassis serial number. Could this been omitted on some of the KB-1's ? As per data plate I''m looking for 5 numbers, 7 then a space and 4 others.

Lefty, look on the frame rail from in front of the steering box to the frame horn. on the drivers side. I know that they are hand stamped and 1/2 inch in size. DO not grind on it, flat scrape any gunk and then clean with a solvent. They could be faint.

Here's a pic of where it is. It's right under the first hole in frame. (not the spring hanger hole)

Frame numbers weren't omitted on IHC but some individual numbers or letters sure are faint to the point where they might as well have been omitted. An imagination is often needed to fill in the blanks.
Be glad we are IHC nuts and not GMC nuts. Evidently, old GMCs never had coherent frame numbers at all. That's what their site said, anyway.

Yea, my 1937 GMC was titled off the engine serial number which isn't listed on the ID plate located on the firewall,
There was no number anywhere else on the truck, if you remove the ID plate 4 screws, no documentation at all.
When I went to ship it to a buyer in Maui I couldn't make numbers match until I finally found the ones under crud on the engine block, matched title, good to go

Re: Data frame expert needed

Found my numbers. They were on the side of the frame as shown on Wylie picture. The only difference is that my frame is stamp KB 1 and not K1. Is there a reason for that ?

Thanks

A 48 would be a KB

Re: Data frame expert needed

The numbers can be incredibly faint. I did not see #'s on truck in avatar although I had sandblasted and painted frame. Noticed the # on this K2 frame I was working on
