KB-5 454 BBC

So I bought myself a 68’ Chevelle a few months back with intentions to pull the 327 and drop in a real low kilometre 454 that came with it. But... I’ve had that nice big 454 Chevy sitting in front of the big green KB-5 and I’ve suddenly got the burning desire to drop it in the KB-5. I was just wondering how hard it would be to do this while leaving the cab in its meant-to-be spot on the frame. I realize that the 454 will be NO challenge to hold for the big frame that it’s always had. Mainly, I wanna know what kind of modifications I’ll have to do to put the motor mounts in the right spot as well as transmission mounts for a siginaw 3 speed standard. Clearly to fit that engine inside I’ll have to cut the cowl out and move it back. My biggest concern however is going to be having enough room for a larger rad to go with that huge block. Anyways, whatever y’all can come up with helps! Pics of the truck below to help get your ideas flowing too. Aside from the engine I’d like to chop the cab maybe 3 inches or so. I would love some tips and generally just how people chop K/KB cabs.

I cannot add anything. I think this is all wrong, but, it is your truck and parts.
Cummins are offering the Cummins ISF as a crate engine. It is available as a 2.8 litre and 3.8 litre. The 3.8 will run circles around that 454 and use 10% of the fuel doing it.
Yo did ask for opinions and this is one opinion.

I definitely agree, there is much better, more powerful and fuel efficient engines. I’m mainly just going for something to run a couple miles down the back roads sometimes, rip around in the unused fields. Strictly a stupid country toy so I understand your thinking lol. Just trying to revive the truck since the 6 cyl diamond is destroyed beyond repair.

Re: KB-5 454 BBC

I bought a tiny 1936 IHC C-1 pickup outfitted for BBC. It will fit. In my case it came with a crazy thick radiator stuffed inside the radiator support with outlets rearranged for BBC.
One thing I like about your project is that the frame is bigger and thicker to absorb the extra power.
I WAS a big fan of Chevy LS 4.8, 5.3, 6.0l engines. These engines make great power. It turns out they have crazy valvetrain, oil pump and oil consumption problems. However, these engines are everywhere. If you break one install another?
I had to shoehorn a Toy Tacoma 4 cyl into a 1938 IHC D-2 so you have you work cut out for you.
Best of luck!
