You have offered very little information about your front suspension. If you are keeping the solid front axle I would suggest that you do not use rack and pinion. R&P cannot function properly, with a solid axle, when mounted to the frame. Mounting the R-P to the axle raises a bunch of other issues and it may not be legal.
Try Google for a rack and pinion system that is compatible with solid axles. I know the R&P is available for my solid axle 1940 Ford, so - - -

Hi, Nesta!
The R&P mounted on the I beam front axle is controversial, here.
As an old-time mechanic I balk at mounting steering input components on the "shifting sands".
In the end it's up to you. However, no manufacturer that I know of ever mounted a steering box or R&P on a SPRUNG component. These items are always mounted solidly to the frame or the unibody.
Best of luck to you!

Why do you say a R & P can't work properly on a solid axle? I see it as a waste of time, but don't see why it can't be used as long as the proper engineering is done and it is place in the proper location for the axle. You wouldn't use the drag link nor the tie rod assembly, but I see no reason it can't be made to work.

WildmanBill installed a rack and pinion on his KB. I'm sure he is a talented fabricator. He posted plenty of pics and information but I can't find it in a search. I have rack and pinion but its on a Fatman IFS
