There may be wear marks in the lower die that would have shown on your finished channel. Also the metal has to slide on the lower die as the upper descends, but does not move relative to the upper die.

Nice work on your restoration. I assume the cardboard is for making a rounded 90 instead of a sharp 90 bend. The sheet metal guys where I work use the power brake for that type bend. The shop has the same twin screw machine, old but never wares out.

Close Kevin. The bottom die radius was too large to match the original frame. So, by placing the cardboard, or any solid material for that matter, in the bottom die you create a tighter or sharper radius.

Thats why I am in the electrical area, But the sheet metal guys do some amazing stuff.
