7.50x20 tire source

Anyone know a source for six 7.50x20 tires and what's a fair price to expect to pay for them?
Coker had some for a tad over $200 each, but I'm hoping I won't have to pay that much, but maybe I will.
They're for a '48 KBS-5.
Thanks!

You don't have a location listed, but a good bet is to try to find a truck shop locally. 7.5x20 may be a bit on the small side for a true truck shop, but I'm working on a deal currently for some used 9.00x20's for my KB-6 that came off a school bus.

Re: 7.50x20 tire source

Well, I paid $205 each for my 7.50 x 20 and $235 each for my 8.25x20. $200 is close to the going price. If you add shipping, expect $40 per tire. so, if the $200 quote is close enough for you to pick them up, I would suggest you do so. I bought 2 7.50x20, 4 8.25x20. tubes and liners for all. $350 in tubes and liners. Total for new shoes for Bessie: $1700 All I can say is OUCH.

Re: 7.50x20 tire source

My local East TN tire dealer located 12-ply Sampson 7.50x20 HiWays at his distributor for $140 each. So I'm feeling pretty good about that! The only place he found tubes was at Coker in Chattanooga, TN at $29 each which doesn't sound bad either.

My question now, is should I get the tubes that have the fixed metal valve stem or the rubber flexible valve stem? The big truck tire store that will be mounting the tires suggested the rubber ones, but I wanted to get y'all's opinion first. The prices are the same for the two types of tubes. Does it make a difference that the rear wheels are dual?

Thanks!

My opinion only: If you have duals, you will want the metal ones. Do not forget the rubber flap that needs to be between the tube and the rim. Others will weigh in.

Re: 7.50x20 tire source

Does anyone have any data on what tire size went on which model? For instance, did a K6 have a different tire tan a K7 or a K5?

I have seen some KB6 wit 7.5 x 20 tires and I have seen a K7 with 8.25 x 20 tires. I also saw a newer R180 with 9.0 x 20 tires. I guess my question is there a chart that shows what tire sizes came on which IH models?

Frank - no idea about any lists, but my KB-6 has 8.25's on it. I'm looking at 9.00's because that's what's available, and I might be able to swing a fantastic deal (fingers crossed)...

Re: 7.50x20 tire source

Tire size is one more thing that could be spec'd. On -7's it could vary from 7.50 to 10.00 x 20's.
The type of tube valve stem is determined by the type of rim. Rubber stems useally do not have the 90 deg needed for duals and are for single drop center type wheels. It comes down to where the end of the stem ends up and whether you can have access to it when the rim(s) are mounted on the truck.
