Re: Sheet Metal Tube Under Carb??

You are truly an IHC parts expert! Thank you for looking that up. So many things not in the diagrams.
Welcome back!!

I just did not read close enough in the parts manual. Interesting that they label it a restrictor and for non-governed engines.
Well we know it is a stock part but not really sure what it's for?

Does seem to be a speed limiter of some sort. Hard to believe these trucks needed that!

I think it was an attempt to prevent over speed of the engine, not the truck!

Re: Sheet Metal Tube Under Carb??

A number of manufacturers, primarily GM, but also many others, used a tube similiar to this under the carb, with an exhaust chamber around the tube to heat the air/fuel mixture and improve atomization of the fuel.

Standard Hygrade was the primary aftermarket supplier of the replacement tubes. The only I.H.C. listing for these tubes in the Standard Hygrade catalogues were the 1935~1937 C1 trucks.

Re: Sheet Metal Tube Under Carb??

I think the difference between this on and the ones Carbking describes, this one is surrounded by the intake, and not exhaust gasses and has a smaller outlet than inlet, and is labeled "restrictor" in the parts book, so is likely just that, something to restrict the inlet. Much like some race car rules.

I have one of those restrictors as well. I am going to omit it and see how it runs.
