Transmission overhaul? 49KB1

Hello All:

My 49 KB1 runs really well, except there is a tremendous amount of noise from the transmission when I decelerate in any forward gear. A mechanic indicated that it is ok for now, as long as I don't use the truck for a daily driver. I'd like to fix the problem(s) with the transmission but I'm not sure what exactly needs to be done.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be based on my description above and how to fix it?

Thanks for your help!

It most likley just needs new bearings since it is still functional. Untill you do remove it make sure it has plenty of gear oil in it. When you do remove it check the input shaft bearing in the flywheel too! Goose

I have a couple KB 3-speeds. Both are set up to be shifted on the column.
