only way i know of is to cut out the rusted away stuff, fabricate new replacement piece, and weld in new piece. this takes a bit of time, patience, and skill. oh, and a bunch of fun to use tools.

...also it photos of trouble area could be provided then more detailed response can be provided. I had to replace the section of cab at the top of the windshield frame that i did know was a rust out until i removed the windshield frame to replace its weatherseal.

Can you turn the cab upside down to do the work,,,just suggesting as you could cause a lot of pain to your neck having your head tipped back for extended periods to complete the repair...

sure you could turn the cab upside down. that is more work, but if you have the cab stripped and off the frame already, why not?

however, but turning the cab upside down, you forego the fun and thrill of having hot welding slab fall on you when welding overhead. To me, I wanted all the experiences possible so the cab is still on the frame.

I ended up with severe pain in my neck doing work like that,,,having my head tipped back,,fortunately my health care provider covers drugs ,chiropractor and massage therapy....that panel is a bitch of an area to work at...even laying the cab on its side and working vertically would be easier as it is a lengthy process to repair.

you could always put a bench in the cab, and lay on your back to weld, Sistine Chapel style,

there are some cabs on craigslist if your cab has more rust out, if it is just those spots, probably fix instead of replace,

I hear they sell bondo by the gallon tub now,

Re: Suggestions for repairing rust below the wiper motors

I am avoiding the cut and re-weld route as I know that I will tear the cab apart and then get a bad case of "I might as well fix this and that while I have it apart". The result is then another vehicle all tore apart and not usable until complete.
I am considering bending up a sheet metal panel to fasten over the area for purely cosmetic reasons. On second thought, why are I worried about cosmetics when the old girl is going to be put back to work?

Fibreglass? or just patch panels and smooth it out with some poop. Or just glue some fun fur to the area,,that would be stylin' ...I would go the quickest route since it is not a structure issue..post some pics, nothing too painful for us when it comes to binders

Nothing is too painful ? What a great chance to put in a bunch of cheap switches for neon under-glow lights, fake NOS, mood lights, rocket launchers, a cup hook for pine tree air fresheners, clip for a CB radio mike, glow-the-dark St. Christopher medal, the possibilities are endless! Before you reply, I'm kidding.
