Wouldn't a T-19 work, too? Then you would have the added advantage of a synchronized 1st gear.

I'm guessing that a t-98 out of a different make would have a different input shaft?

Yes, the Ford version uses a different shaft.

Re: Tranny slips out of 4th Gear

I'm lookin at some parts blow-ups of t-34 transmissions [5 OD and syncronized ]and it looks like the same bolt up as the non-syncro 5 OD transmissions like the F-51 that I have now . Is that a possibility ?

Re: Tranny slips out of 4th Gear

FYI (useful or not),

The input shaft IH used is 1 1/4" - 10 tooth spline in light trucks with IH engines,
with the exception of Scout 80's w/152 4 cyl's which are 15/16" - 10
The OD of the pilot bearing is different in K/KB's than later models,ID is the same.

FWIW...
The T-34/36 was only available (as far as I found) with an SV8 in 4x2 LL trucks.Used the same pilot brg (w/o the flywheel bushing) as medium trucks .

Pilot bearings;
K/KB 1-5

Re: Tranny slips out of 4th Gear

Thanks for all the great info and advice. The first/last time I drained the oil it had what appeared to be as a lot of brass floating in it. What would a conversion to the T-98 cost, and would the old hand brake still fit? I have a spare T-9 and a 3 speed in the garage. I'm not so sure I want to invest too much into this old beater right now. This truck looks ok from 50 feet (the rust is harder to see), but it needs so much work. The engine doesn't smoke and the compression isn't bad, but it sounds like it has a rod knock at low rpms. It had white foam in the dipstick tube before I reinstalled the front clip, now perhaps the h2o vapor doesn't have a chance to condense. The tires could be as old as me, since the rear look like they have saw dust or walnut shell embedded in them, and when you hit the brakes hard they usually lock up. I digress... I'm trying to keep the truck almost bone stock, but it would be nice to be able to drive down the road without fear of death.
