Re: Raidiator

WELL, here I go suggesting things I can’t, at this time, verify. I can no longer find my $60 radiator. I just finished searching and the best I could do was $186. The site , I believe I looked at last time, has a message that the site does not exist etc. probably a very good thing I ordered nothing from them.

Mine for my KB-1 was around $300 in Canada. That's probably close to 10 years ago now.

Re: Radiator

Last week I took two of my KB-2 radiators to the local radiator shop to have a new core put in it. They said it would be $850 plus tax. I was expecting half that. I might shop around. I am trying to do very good restoration, and I didn't like the idea of an aluminum radiator painted black.

Got a new quote and took it to a shop or $525, so that is better.

Re: Raidiator

I had a custom radiator built for my R120 with enough cooling to handle an IH 6.9 Diesel V8. That radiator was an close to 1000 with the tax. That was around 1991. The custom radiator looks very much like the OEM, but wider and thicker, with 4 rows of cooling. I used layers of cardboard to make the mock-up. I had to build a larger radiator support bracket.
It is only time and money, after all. :t3909:

Re: Raidiator

Nik, I’m looking to use a multi blade universal fan on my gd 214 . The ones I’ve researched have 5/8” center holes. I believe mine is one inch. Are they available or do I drill out the hole ?

Thanks,
Bobby K

Re: Raidiator

I do not know it one of these fans is available with a one inch centering hole. If you decide to drill the centering hole larger, use extreme caution to keep the hole centered. I would likely be looking for one of those stepped drills. They center really well. These stepped drills make a perfectly round hole, versus a two flute drill tends to make a three lobe hole.

This is an example. There must be other less expensive drills.
You may be able to buy a reamer to resize the centering hole. Lots of luck. Remember, you level of luck increases with how much you prepare.
